An Awkward Relationship: Hebrew Roots, Adventists, and Stones

A perplexing challenge to the current position of the Seventh-day Adventist denomination is the focus on the Decalogue, and tedious dance with the greater Law within which the Decalogue is nestled. From birth until now you encounter the dichotomy of saved by grace and the obedience to the Law, usually referring to the Decalogue, but not always.

Follow the Money…The Tithe Is Up…Return on Investment Is 1% or less.

Recently I was working on a financial break down for a discipleship plan committee. Typically when I am asked for a consult, I like numbers initially. I pray over the numbers and ask the Holy Spirit to show me what it is he wants me to see, focus on, what questions I need to ask.

Numbers are not everything, but they are a sign of discipleship. Especially financial numbers. Matthew 6:21, Jesus tells the crowd that “where there treasure is, there will their hearts be also.” Jesus spoke parables about rich men selling everything, a Ludacris and financially irresponsible decision, to have the gospel. The gospels have stories of Zacheues, who gave everything back. He asked the rich young man to sell all that he had. Mary spent a years worth of wages on perfume to pour on Jesus’ feet. Nicodemus spent close to $10,000 dollars in today’s money on spices for Christ’s burial.

What Am I Missing? The Current Sanctuary Doctrine in Adventism

Genuinely, help me make the Sanctuary doctrine make sense. After being involved over the last few years in formal and informal discussions, research, debates, and studies and apologetics, I want to know what I am missing. Recently, in my daily habit of listening to the Bible online, I was listening to Jeremiah while I laid down for a nap. This sparked my yet again question on what I am missing. When Adventist academics that I know, professors that I was educated by, leaders and Adventist writers all express personal doubt in the Sanctuary doctrine and the ramifications that it causes theologically, help me know what I am missing?

Somewhere We Missed the Point (Thoughts on Immigration)

Today there is a failing among us Christians. The failing to avoid being political and to embrace being a salve on a broken world. We have become partisan. It seems like we have forgotten that sojourners are always present and tucked away in the Law. I look around the last few days and I see Christian influencers, podcasters, preachers, and other professed believers condemning the government or on the other side of things, praising the government over the significant deportations taking place. “They broke the law,” and, “it is not fair to the other legal migrants.” Then another side preaches a message that we should turn a blind eye and allow unmitigated imigration or somewhere in that realm.

The Double Standard…And Heresy?

Why does having a correct view of atonement matter?

For one, the current Seventh-day Adventist position is counter to Scripture. The church can no longer can claim to be Sola Scriptura, or we lie.

It robs Christ of the magnitude of what took place on the Cross as a focal point of God's love for the universe and the consequences of sin.

There is no assurance of forgiveness for sin or salvation until Satan dies, once again making Satan a place where he does not belong.

Sola Scriptura? Then How Did We Get Here?

So the Seventh-Day Adventist Sanctuary Message is…that Christ built the heavenly Sanctuary at some time in the far distant past, then gave the designs to Moses. Christ then ascended into heaven after the crucifixion, entered into the Holy Place, then on October 22, 1844, entered into the Most Holy Place to atone for our sins with his blood, to begin closing probation in ‘shutting the door’ for salvation as well as overseeing the investigation of going through the book of life to seal the righteous, and then will return to earth once that is complete. Christ then will turn the Temple into a home for the 144,000 once the New Jerusalem comes down from heaven.

1844 was far from simple.

Less than 1%…The Results of 2023 NAD Survey

As much as someone would want to look through the summaries of the data collected, it cannot be stressed how inaccurate of a perception would be gleaned from this survey. Less than 1% of all membership will not give you an accurate read on your congregants. This is why you will never see this report discussed. If it is, I would highly question the reasons as to why it is being discussed and presented.

The Curious Case of Breaking Biblical Norms???

Ellen White breaks the established biblical norm, appearing singularly as a divine voice, guide, prophet, witness to the workings of God. A prophet’s definition as being a witness to the workings of God who then is utilized as a mouth piece to express that will to the ecclesia.

To Be…or Not…Inspiration of Ellen White

The fact that the Seventh-day Adventist church has not unequivocally concluded the ‘type’ of inspiration that Ellen White falls under from the foundations of the denomination should and are often a warning sign to many that maybe we do not hold all the answers, and maybe we are holding positions that simply are not aligned with Scripture.

Clear Definitions…

The madness never ends. For again, no one in Christendom or inside the Seventh-Day Adventist denomination with any sort of voice can agree on a definition. In fact, the definition shifts within the administrative circles of the church itself, depending on their personal conviction and definition they apply to their leadership.
